The application of steel pipes in municipal construction is diversifying, with green


In urban infrastructure construction, the application of steel pipes is expanding from traditional water supply and drainage fields to diversified directions such as integrated pipe corridors and bridge structures. At the same time, the integration of green, environmentally friendly, and recyclable concepts has driven innovation breakthroughs in municipal steel pipes in terms of material selection, production processes, and recycling.

In urban infrastructure construction, the application of steel pipes is expanding from traditional water supply and drainage fields to diversified directions such as integrated pipe galleries and bridge structures. At the same time, the integration of green, environmentally friendly, and recyclable concepts is driving innovation in municipal steel pipes in terms of material selection, production processes, and recycling. 
Municipal steel pipes emphasize practicality and environmental protection. Water supply pipes use non-toxic epoxy-coated steel pipes; the inner coating meets drinking water hygiene standards, reducing bacterial growth and improving water quality compliance rates. Cable protection pipes in integrated pipe galleries use hot-dip galvanized steel pipes with a zinc layer thickness exceeding 85μm, exhibiting excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance and reducing damage to cables in underground environments. Bridge structure steel pipes use Q355ND low-temperature toughness steel, with impact energy ≥34J at -40℃, suitable for the climate conditions of northern cold regions. 
Their advantages are particularly prominent in construction and maintenance. Steel pipes are lightweight, facilitating transportation and hoisting, reducing traffic impact during construction in narrow urban areas. For example, a 1-meter diameter spiral welded pipe weighs 50% less than a concrete pipe; when using trenchless pipe jacking technology, the jacking resistance is small, and construction efficiency is improved. In later maintenance, steel pipe inspection and repair are more convenient; leakage points can be quickly located using pipe robots, and partial pipe replacement or lining repair techniques reduce maintenance costs by more than 30%. 
Applications are rich and diverse. In urban water supply projects, large-diameter straight seam welded pipes are used for cross-river water transmission pipelines, with a single pipe length of 18 meters, reducing the number of joints and lowering leakage risks. In integrated pipe gallery projects, galvanized steel pipes serve as separation supports for power compartments and integrated compartments, combining structural support and cable protection functions. In sponge city construction, perforated steel pipes are used for rainwater infiltration wells; the pipe wall perforation rate reaches 10%, allowing for rapid collection and infiltration of rainwater, supplementing groundwater resources. 
It is worth noting that the industry is promoting the green development of municipal steel pipes. Many companies use recycled steel to manufacture steel pipes, with a recycled steel ratio exceeding 30%, reducing iron ore consumption and carbon emissions. At the same time, the recyclability of steel pipes allows them to be re-melted and reused after project demolition, with a material recovery rate exceeding 90%, meeting the requirements of a circular economy.
