From the perspective of product characteristics, the new generation of steel pipes pays more attention to adaptability in material selection and structural design. For example, low-alloy high-strength steel pipes, by adjusting the ratio of carbon, manganese, vanadium, and other elements, have a tensile strength 20% higher than that of ordinary carbon steel pipes, while maintaining good toughness and stable performance under high pressure and impact loads. Seamless steel pipes use a process combining hot-rolled piercing and cold-drawn finishing, with dimensional accuracy controlled within ±0.1mm, improved inner wall smoothness, reduced fluid resistance, and suitability for scenarios with high requirements for medium transportation efficiency.
In terms of advantages, the comprehensive performance advantages of steel pipes are further highlighted. Compared with concrete pipes, steel pipes are lighter and stronger, reducing the amount of scaffolding by more than 30% for the same span and reducing the load on the engineering foundation; compared with plastic pipes, they have better high-temperature resistance and anti-aging performance, with a service life of more than 50 years in transportation environments above 80℃. In addition, the weldability and machinability of steel pipes allow them to adapt to the needs of complex engineering shapes, such as elbows and tees, which can be formed by integral forging or welding to ensure the sealing of system connections.
The expansion of application fields has become an important driving force for industry growth. In the energy field, high-grade pipeline steel pipes (X80, X90 grade) have been widely used in major oil and gas pipeline projects such as the West-to-East Gas Pipeline Project Phase III and the China-Russia East Route Pipeline, capable of withstanding working pressures above 10MPa and adapting to low-temperature environments of -40℃. In urban construction, large-diameter spiral welded pipes are used for sludge transportation pipelines in sewage treatment plants, and their corrosion-resistant coatings (such as 3PE anti-corrosion layers) can resist acid-base medium corrosion, extending the maintenance cycle to more than 8 years. In mechanical manufacturing, precision seamless steel pipes, as core components of hydraulic systems, provide stable power transmission for the hydraulic cylinders of engineering machinery.
Industry data shows that in 2024, the output of high value-added steel pipes in China increased by 15% year-on-year, with products used in energy and high-end equipment accounting for more than 40%. Many steel pipe companies have stated that they will continue to increase R&D investment and focus on breakthroughs in key products such as ultra-high-pressure steel pipes and weather-resistant steel pipes to meet the personalized needs of different industries.
